A word from Michelle, the 'Baby Moana' costume creator:
a week before Halloween, my daughter asked to be "baby" Moana. My husband agreed w/ the costume as long as she was not completely naked. If you've ever seen the movie, you'll know that baby Moana only wears a diaper.
leotard: I had this idea to make a leotard so that she wasn't just wearing the little skirt. I bought a small piece of Moana inspired fabric from Etsy and then found some sheer and matching orange performance fabric from my local fabric store. I decided to add some trim to the leotard and the skirt for an extra touch. I took one of my daughter's onsies and traced it on tissue paper. Then I guesstimated the locations to put the orange fabric. I finished the sides w/ elastic, though if I did this again, I'd recommend not using clear thread vs. matching polyester thread as my daughter complained this was itchy. ($40, after a lot of coupons)
shorts: I made a basic pair of bloomers w/ 1/4 yard linen and then added a piece of fabric in the front so that it would look like a skirt. Then I cut out orange semi circles from iron-on transfer material and ironed them on the skirt. The last touch was the same trim that I added to the leotard. ($15)
accessories: my daughter already had the singing Moana necklace from the Disney store; we borrowed a pink plumeria hair clip, and she wore her moccasins for photos.
