A word from Lisa, the 'Bilbo Baggins' costume creator:
My 6mo son Lucas had shaggy hair so we knew we had to pick a costume that fit - Bilbo Baggins!
For the blazer:
The plan was to create a pattern using an old blazer, but it was impossible to find a cheap used one anywhere so I opted for purchasing a pattern online for 10 bucks. Good news is I can re-use the pattern for future projects! For Bilbo's iconic coat I used a beautiful burgundy velvet from JoAnn. This was the hardest part of the costume and it turned out to be a very messy fabric to work with. I used Celtic buttons found in a sale bin to finish it up.
For the vest:
I used a very cheap green felted fabric that I cut into a very basic vest shape (front only) and sewed it directly onto a white onesie.
For the pants and feet:
Surprisingly I couldn't find brown corduroy so I used an extra pair of brown cotton pants and cut them to length. I then sewed patches of faux fur onto beige socks for the feet.
