This homemade costume for babies entered our 2015 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Bethany, the 'Rooster' costume creator:
Our daughter, Ruby (10 months), is wearing the rooster costume. We received an Eric Carle Farm Animals book when Ruby was born. It featured on the cover, a beautiful golden rooster with a cascading tail of rainbow colored feathers--this was our inspiration.
The costume consists of the two onesies sewn together with the arms and snap bottom cut off on the top onesie. We did this so we could attach a piece of cardboard with unwound hangers for the tail without them ever poking her-we added stuffing around the cardboard. Then I attached 4 golden-yellow boas up and down the onesie. I made orange sequin pants for the legs. We created the comb (the red piece at the top) using two pieces of red sequin fabric that we stuffed to give dimension. This was attached to pilot cap that I bought from Etsy. This cap was covered in golden-yellow boa feathers as well with the comb attached. For the tail, I just glued a rainbow colored feather boa up and down the hanger pieces making sure to leave a little extra to hang down. Ruby had just started walking a few weeks before so the "baby walk" made the costume even more perfect. She did a great job in the costume and we lost feathers everywhere we went as she "plucked" herself if feathers got near her face.
