A word from Eliza, the 'Theodore Roosevelt' costume creator:
The inspiration for this costume is pretty obvious as my son's name is Roosevelt. He had a picture of the president in his exploring gear over his bed - that's how he learned to spell his name. And ever since watching Night at the Museum the little toddler is very proud of his name. He carried around a big stick too for most of the night, though he didn't speak softly. The pin on his hat is actually a genuine military pin for a WWI (I believe that’s the one) uniform that I inherited. So I added it to this sunhat and pinned it up like so. The pant stirrups are upside down sleeves cut off of an old shirt and held together simply with the buttons on the cuff – no sewing required! The glasses were from kids Groucho glasses with the nose removed and a duct taped elastic strap to keep them on. And you can’t really see it but he’s wearing tap shoes! (I found them at Payless for $2). I covered the taps with masking tape first to protect them, then duct tape to muffle the sound and so he wouldn’t slip. When trick or treating was over for the night he took off his costume and announced, "President Roosevelt is now back to me Roosevelt"!
