A word from Rocky, the 'Beetle' costume creator:
This is my 4 year old grandson Ebin and he is a Beetle. My daughter Ashley has three children and we kind of wanted to go with a garden creature theme for all three of them. I didn't follow any patterns and most of the materials for the costume were scraps from my craft box. I used two pairs of green, hooded footed pajamas for the base of the costume. The eyes are made from plastic Christmas balls. The chest piece and antenna is made pipe insulation. The shell is made from egg crate foam that is used for a bed. It hooks onto his back with two loops around his shoulders that are detachable so he could fit into his car seat. The chest piece is also detachable and attaches with Velcro. The extra legs each have a piece of fishing line that hook to his wrists so when he moved his arms the legs would move too. We completed the costume with black gloves. I made this costume very comfortable but durable for his age. He loved his costume. He kept crawling around on all fours saying he was doing beetle stuff. He did not want to take it off. He really enjoyed it and so did everybody watching him!
