A word from Holly, the 'Dr. Who Dalek' costume creator:
My 10 year old son Jesse Rozic is wearing this costume. He got the idea off of the show Dr. Who. To make this costume we used huge carboard panels that were measured with many separate angles. Angles would very on the size of the costume you were making for the size of the person wearing it. Then we took Gold Christmas plastic balls and cut them in half and place them on the lower half of the costumes. The upper half of the costume was designed with 6 wooden dowels, a plastic bowl bought from the dollar store, and typical black screen that would be used on an outside door. Then I took a cardboard roll off the end of a package of foil and placed and keychain light inside the roll. I bought a blue plastic see through binder and cut it into circles that would fit inside the keychain light to create a blue effect when the light was turned on. Then the cardboard tube with the light was glued to the plastic bowl which is at the top of the costume. The wooden dowels where place between the bowl and the lower part of the costume to separate them and the screen is placed between the lower half of the costumr and the plastic bowl so my son could see through it and know where he was walking. The black rings around the 6 dowels were made out of cardboard as well. In front of the costume we had bought a plunger and a hair brush from the dollar store. The hairbrush was painted gold and the plunger was painted black at the end and gold on the handle. Then I bought gold and black paint to paint the rest of the costume. the total cost of this costume with a proximately $75.00.
