A word from Denise, the 'Edward Scissorhands' costume creator:
My 8yr old son, Gabriel chose to be Edward Scissorhands this year! And of course there was no costume to be had for children so I decided to create it! Since sewing wasn't an option for me I really had to get creative with glue and Velcro! This costume is not for the weary...plenty of trips to the thrift stores! I found quite a few black, piece jumpsuits. I paid $4.99 for This one from The Avengers (I used permanent markers to black out the emblems on the arms). I scoured the shops for grommet belts. I used 3 which came to about $5.00. I lucked out and found a bag of black snap strips for $3.99 too! I cut the snap strips and velcroed them around the shoulders, chest and legs. I continued the strips around the back too. I cut up the belts and filled in the spaces, again using Velcro. The gloves were made using dollar store gloves, silver plastic knives (sanding down the ridges)' a hot glue gun and electrical tape. I shortened the handles of the knives and glued them from the knuckles to mid finger to allow mobility. Then I taped up the whole glove for authenticity. I used black hair spray, light foundation, and brown/black shadow! He felt pretty cool 😀
