This homemade costume for boys entered our 2017 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Mary, the 'Flying with the Cat in the Hat' costume creator:
This year my son’s costume was inspired by Dr. Seuss’s Cat in the Hat. My son recently began watching the series The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That on Netflix and has been crazy about the characters.
The ensemble includes a Cat in the Hat suit, hat, and thingamajigger. The suit is sewn from fabric I purchased from a local store. The hat is constructed from poster board and glue. The thingamajigger is poster board, cardboard, Styrofoam, plastic disposable cups, duct tape, scotch tape, Elmer’s Glue, black string, fabric paint and acrylic paint.
Finally, the Halloween basket is double sided and depicts the Cat in the Hat’s sidekicks. One side is Thing 1, the other is Thing 2. The materials used was a cereal box, acrylic paint, fabric paint, copier paper, ribbon and poster board.
My son’s eyes lit up when I unveiled his costume. My husband, who is photographer, said it was difficult photographing my son due to my child’s excitement about the costume. LOL.
