This homemade costume for boys entered our 2013 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Asha, the 'Jelly Fishies' costume creator:
My sons are wearing the homemade jellyfish costumes. The idea came from a documentary we watched about jellyfish destroying the fishing industry. Did more research online. All items bought from Dollar Store except LED string lights.
Bubble wrap
Battery operated LED lights
Glows Sticks
Clear packaging tape
Duct tape
Ribbon (optional)
I made two jellyfish costumes. A purple and green. I wrapped the bubble wrap around my child's head and kept wrapping and taping down with clear packaging tape until the dome was formed. Taped the LED light around the dome and made sure the battery pack was long enough to fit in a shirt pocket so that the light could be easily switched on and off. Took more bubble wrap and wrapped around 3x the LED light to conceal it., making sure that the dome shape was maintained. I also cut long strips of bubble wrap to make tentacles which I taped with clear packaging tape all around the dome. On Halloween my sons and I duct taped glow sticks to the end of the jellyfish dome to look like tentacles. I also taped some on my children's black sweaters to give the illusion of different length tentacles which made it look more realistic. On my older child's jellyfish I also taped on ribbons as tentacles.
On Halloween night they wore beanies under the dome to keep them warm and dressed all in black.
