Super Mario World Bowser Costume

We did a family themed costume, but my son was the star in his homemade Bowser costume. I made the head by appliqueing 3-D felt pieces onto an old baseball cap. The lower jaw is made from a tube of felt which was stuffed and sewn onto the bill of another baseball cap. He was comfortable and able to see very well through the mouth. The belly was easily quilted on my sewing machine using cream felt, and the shell includes hand-stitched spikes. The belly and shell were worn like a backpack for easy removal, and black duct tape with puff paint made the bracelets and choker. The base was a pair of store bought yellow sweats; the homemade tail was sewn into the sweatshirt. The adults were hastily thrown together as Mario and Luigi, and my daughter wore a previously homemade pink Princess dress, complete with crown and necklace. We added a store bought pink dress to keep her warmer (the base dress is sleeveless); I tacked up the front and back to mimic Princess Peach's look.
