A word from Michele, the 'Where the Wild Things Are' costume creator:

I have three sons, two who are close in age, and I have always loved this book, and also the movie when it came out. I always wanted to dress up my two younger boys as characters from the book, and my older of the two is just like the character Max from the book, the king of all wild things. I made his costume from a McCall costume pattern that I had left over from a few years ago, and I just used an off-white batting to make it. The buttons are circles of felt that I hand stitched on, and his fox tail is one that we bought at our local Renaissance Festival. I made his crown from posterboard, gold spray paint, and pom-poms and his whiskers are pipe cleaners. My younger son is wearing a long sleeve shirt and a pair of sweatpants that I used Phoomph and hot glue to attach about 100 or so pieces of felt that I cut out to look like feathers, and he is supposed to be one of the wild things from the book. I cut apart a Davy Crockett hat, and used to the tail for his tail on his pants, and I used pieces of felt that I cut out to make the face and glue them to the front of the hat. The horns are also felt that I stitched, turned inside out, and then stuffed with fluff. My older son Milo who is dressed up as Max, is the same boy who I was pregnant with in the now-famous cinnamon bun in the oven costume picture, which has been circulating the Internet for five years now. It was featured in American Baby magazine, on this website, Pinterest, and has been seen several years in a row on the Huffington Post best pregnancy Halloween costumes.
