Baby Twins Couples Costume

This costume is made and worn by my husband and I. First we needed two baby dolls ( saw ones for $5-$7 at Walmart). We got 2 of the same dolls and had to remove the heads (sorry babies). Then we got 2 different baby outfits to fit the dolls (green for the boy and a pink one for the girl). We used a sleeper type outfit so you would see only the doll's hands. We took a large TV box (you should measure how wide you and your partner are together to be sure the box will cover from one shoulder to the other person's opposite shoulder). My husband cut the one side of the box off to make it open faced and then made sure all corners were secures with tape. I got a baby blanket for $3 at good will. It was one of the ones made that you tie together so when I untied all the ends it was 2 blankets I used to cover the box to make it into a crib/bed the babies would be laying on. We cut holes for our heads in the boxes where we would stand so our heads would fit through the holes to be seen. We measured where the baby dolls bodies would lay to know where to cut the holes. Holes just need to be big enough for your heads to fit through and don't need to be perfectly round or sized..just don't make them too big. Next we got the glue gun ready and attached the blankets to the box. Made a slit in the blankets where our heads need to go over the holes already cut and then secured the blankets under the holes. We have found that cutting an X in the material over a hole and then folding it over to glue underneath works best. Next we placed the doll bodies right under the holes and secured them to the blankets on the box with the glue gun. I picked up at the dollar store 3 blue shower curtains, baby bottles for each baby, a 2 pack of pacifiers and a pack of little rattle decorations that said, "it's a boy," and "it's a girl" for a total of only $7 each. We then attached the bottles, pacifiers, and rattles around the babies with the glue gun. Now we had to put on the shower curtains so you wouldn't see our feet. Just took the glue gun and glued the curtains all the way around the outside edge of the box. Had the baby blankets hang over the edge to make it prettier and cover some of the curtain. We cut the bottom of the shower curtains as close to the floor as we could when we were standing in the costume but short enough so that we could safely walk. My husband is at least 6-7 inches taller than I am so I had to wear some high platform shoes to try to get our heights relatively close (so our babies would be pretty even). We found a pink and green winter hats to look like baby bonnets. The last touch was we took metal skewers and put them from the bottom of the box through a small hole we made into one arm each of the babies. We then put the top of the skewer through into the babies arm ( a little below the wrist). This then gave us the ability to move the arms of the babies to wave "hi" and "bye" or even fist bump people. The costume total for the 2 of us was between $25 and $30. This was quite a deal since most of the best store bought ones you can't find for less than $50 each.
People were laughing, intrigued and cheering for our babies. They loved when our babies were waving/moving their arms. People of all ages would come up and stare at the illusion, ask how it was done, and also stop us for pictures (with and without them in the pictures). It was a fun and perfect adult but kid friendly costume for everyone.
 
This costume could easily be adjusted to be a single costume for any age by only having one baby and using a smaller box...could also be expanded to be triplets or quadruplets if you could find a big enough box or combine multiple boxes with sturdy duct tape. We wish we could send you a video of the babies moving in action but hope that the pictures give you a good idea of our costume. Happy Halloween!!
