This homemade costume for couples entered our 2016 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Jacey, the 'Groot and Gamora' costume creator:

These costumes are being worn by my husband and I. I came up with the idea to use at a local costume contest after falling in love with the Groot caracter from Guardians of the Galaxy. For groot I started by purchasing some dry wall stilts! Overall my husband was 8ft 3inches in the costume. I started by taking craft foam and layering it and shaping it like Groots face. After the shape was right I got out the dremal and used it to give a wood texture. After about 4 times or repainting I finally decided I liked it and it was time to move on to his body. I started with a compression shirt and pants for my husband as the base layer of the costume and took pipe insulation cut in half to make the vine shapes and textures all over his body. I attached them all with hot glue and burnt my poor husband a few to many times as he had to be in the suit will it was being made. As for Groots bark like plates on his chest and back I used those snap together puzzle shaped foam mats. I cut out some interesting shapes and again dremaled to give it that wooden look. The legs were done the same way (a lot of hot glue was harmed in the making of this costume). I did used a felt material to make "bell bottoms" to cover his stilts and the continued the pipe insulation to the floor. After it was dremaled it was covered in liquid latex (paint doesnt stick to pipe insulation) and painted. Then I purchased some moss from the craft store and layed it over his whole body. The gloves were atually part of a "realistic tree" mask set I saw at a halloween store that I painted to match the costume. For me I found some green body paint, a black and pink wig, and a black leather jacket. The sword was made from the same foam puzzle pieces and covered in worbla and painted. The costume was started in early June and wasnt finished until the day of the contest last year on Halloween. As for cost I am not certain as it was spread out over 6 months.

Amazing job! Extremely well done and I hope you win lots of awards with it. They look straight out of the movies. Really enjoyed this.
