Van Gogh and His Masterpiece Costume

My boyfriend dressed as the artist Vincent Van Gogh and I dressed as "his masterpiece." I am an art major in college and have always had a passion for it. Vincent Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists. He is known for the famous painting "Starry Night." For Vincent Van Gogh's outfit, we were inspired by one of his self-portraits. We bought a suit jacket and shirt from goodwill. I then painted the jacket and the shirt with acrylic paint, trying to mimics Van Gogh's painting style. We then added the straw hat (which he is seen wearing in numerous self portraits) and added a bandage over the ear with fake blood, since Van Gogh is known for cutting his ear off. For the outfit of "his masterpiece," I painted a black top with the swirls and colors to match "starry night" and paired it with a skirt with the painting "starry night" on it, found in a thrift shop. I painted a moon on my face and some swirls. I also wore a sunflower crown on my head as tribute to Van Gogh, as he painted many sunflowers. For Van Gogh's face, we painted subtle brush strokes on it to make it feel like he actually was a painting. The costume was relatively cheap but it did take a long time to paint everything.
