Egyptian Royalty Costume

The costumes were made by me (except for the Egyptian skirt) and are worn by three of my children. My daughter needed an Egyptian costume for a "wax museum" project at her school. I like my kids costumes to coordinate, so we worked the theme around her costume since it was already made.

All three costumes cost less than $20.

My oldest girl is wearing a skirt that had been handed down to me from my mother. It was made from fabric my grandmother bought in Egypt on a trip there many years ago. The collar is made out of felt and has gold ribbon sewed onto it. The ears are made of the same felt and attached to a headband.

For the other two costumes all my materials came from Goodwill. The white fabric was a sheet, the cape on my toddler daughter was a shower curtain, and the collars, arm bands and waist piece were made from about a yard of stiff painted fabric that was also at Goodwill (but should be available at a fabric store).

For my daughter's collar I sewed all the beads by hand (these were beads I had purchased at the dollar store). I attached the cape to the collar using Velcro.

For my son's collar and arm bands I used acrylic paint. In order to have straight lines I marked off the pattern using painter's tape. I added velcro to the arm bands and collar for easy removal.
