Little Mermaid Theme Costume

Our group family theme is the Little Mermaid. Ursula, King Triton and 2 mermaids. I sewed my husband’s mermaid tail with teal shiny fabric and with two children’s tutus from the dollar store. I cut the tutus along the seam, and stitched them by hand to the end of his tail. We bought his wig and fake muscles from online. My husband made his trident out of cardboard and a mop handle from the dollar store. We layered 4 peices of cardboard around the mop handle and covered whole thing with masking tape until secure. We then sprayed it with gold spray paint. I made his crown in a similar fashion. I cut a template and used cardboard to make the crown. I covered it in gold glitter paper (from where else, but the dollar store!) and hot glued it to an old headband that I spray painted gold. I made my Ursula long tutu out of black and purple glittery tulle from the fabric store. I made my glowing necklace by spray painting an shell (found a dozen escargot shells at Walmart) gold, drilling a whole and cutting apart a glowing balloon from Walmart and placing glowing peice inside the shell. My children painted and added lots of glitter to shells we collected on vacation and we made the rest of the accessories. My purple earrings, their shell earrings, the shells wands, shell rings and shell crowns. Lastly we blinged out dollar store candy buckets by spray painting them and hot gluing on tutus and gems from the dollar store.
