Mr. Fredrickson, Russel and the House Costume

This is by far my favorite costume of my three-year winning streak. It was my senior year (2012) and the last year I'd be able to enter the contest, so I decided to go as big as I could...
I was Mr. Fredrickson, my little brother Ryan was Russel, and the house was 'floating' above me! My absolute favorite movie is Pixar's Up! :)
I made the head out of a cardboard box. I paper-mached all the features and wrinkles onto his face, painted them, added fuzzy white fabric to his head for hair, and made a giant pair of glasses. I bought his outfit from Goodwill and added a homemade Grape Soda badge. For Russell's out fit, I bought the mustard polo and khaki cargo shorts from Goodwill as well. I used an old brown button down shirt and sewed it into his Wilderness Explorer sash out. We used stickers on chair floor pads for his W.E. badges and stuck them to the sash, obviously leaving a space for his "assisting the elderly badge". We stuffed his belly to make him chubby and put black fuzzy fabric under a hat for his hair. He also had a backpack with everything that Russell's backpack had in the movie (carabiners, handheld gps, paracord rope, small pots, etc). He looked pretty dang cute!!
The part that got the biggest reaction was the floating house. My dad made it completely out of chloroplast, vinyl, and double-sided sticky tape. It's almost an exact replica of how the house looked in the movie, even down to the wood paneling on the bottom of the house where it was "uprooted from the ground" by the balloons (which were made out of little balloons blown up with normal air and glued together so they'd look like the were coming out of the chimney). It weighed more than expected, so we put the house on a metal pole, covered the pole in a hose, and attached the pole to a belt around my waist to help keep the house from falling over! I wrapped an extra house around the belt to hide it and make it look like the house was floating behind me like in the movie!

I absolutely love this costume and I'm so glad that it was my last hoorah in my church's costume contest! :)
