A word from Corey, the 'The Jetsons Family' costume creator:
Meet the Jetsons! This years Halloween was out of this world! I was looking for an idea that hasn't been done much before. I was pleasant surprised at how few people have attempted to dress up as the Jetsons for Halloween. Dad is dressed up as George Jetson. Mom (that's me) went as Jane and our son, Banyan, is Elroy. I made all three costumes from scratch.
For George's costume I altered a white button-up shirt to make the collar stick up and added the black stipes. I made the blue pants out of a yard or so of fabric, following a pattern I found online.
I made my costume out of two shades of purple fabric, creating a purple fitted shirt that buttoned up in the back and a double-layer wire hoop skirt. I made the triangle collar out of cardboard and covered it in white fabric.
Elroy's overalls and hat were made out of green fabric sold by the yard. I used a pattern I found online to make the overalls. For the hat, I used scraps of green fabric and another hat he had as a pattern. Cut out some cardboard and covered it in green fabric for the bill of the hat. Leftover wire from my hoop skirt was constructed into the antenna on top of the hat which was sewn into place on the inside of the hat. His orange collar was also made out of cardboard, covered in fabric.
I made shoe covers for everyone out of leftover fabric and some elastic staps. I added the iconic rings to George's boots out of the leftover wire. I even made a trick or treat candy bag to resemble Elroy Jetson's lunchbox from the cartoon. A little red spray on hair color for mom and dad completed the look.
Halloween day we headed out to the Salvador Dali museum for a one of a kind photo shoot. We do our own Halloween photo's every year using a tripod and a remote. Every year we do homemade themed costumes and always get awesome reactions from people passing by.
