A word from Sheila, the 'This is Sparta' costume creator:
My 1 year son Maximus is wearing the "300" Spartan Leonidas costume. Idea came from my husband because he originally wanted to name my son Leonidas and I said absolutely NOT!! We settled for another Roman movie. "Gladiator" for his name but, to make hubby happy I sewed the costume. It is pretty simple. Deep red/ burgundy jersey fabric ( has enough weight but still comfy) less than half a yard for $2.00. "Leather" type fabric about half yard as well ( way much but nice to have extra for accessories like the sword holder on his shoulders). Bought a $2.50 pack of bronze buttons. For cape, I cut fabric to length finished edges and sewed Velcro on neck ends. Attached bronze buttons on top of Velcro and you have a regal spartan cloak. For leather undies I took his diaper and cut fabric around it for size and pattern. Used velcro like diapers have and added bronze buttons for decor. Arm and leg pieces were men's brown dress socks. I cut the feet off of one pair for the arms and another pair for the legs. More bronze buttons act as armor decor. Sword, dollar store. Abs, as realistic as it looks alas it is dollar store face paint. Sword straps on shoulder is only one long strip of leather like material with Velcro in the ends to wrap in figure 8 pattern on shoulders. Just missing stick on beard lol.
