A word from Robyn, the 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' costume creator:
We found the golden ticket, we found the golden ticket!!
Every year my family and I dress up in a theme including my four legged family also! So this year we did Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. I make every costume by hand. I learned how to sew in 4-H as a little girl and I can honestly say the only time I break out the sewing machine is now for Halloween so classes well spent! We will start with the golden ticket my eight year old schitzue. I found some golden material and some rope at a local thrift store and made her costume. For the lettering I took a sharpie marker and wrote the words golden ticket on it. On to the Wonka Bar. The biggest Wonka Bar you will see is my 10 month old ST. Bernard. This is his first Halloween experience. Let’s just say we had to take lots of pictures to get 1 or 2 right! I again found everything he is wearing from the thrift store. I cut prices of material and sewed the edges all together, the words are material I cut out and hot glued on. He has two ties that go under his belly to keep his Wonka Bar on! Next we will do violet the blue berry. This is Hallee my youngest daughter at 6 years old. We started making her costume in August with a big exercise ball. We paper machete the ball with probably 20 layers letting the layers dry thoroughly between each layer. When we started this project I had no idea that my kids had no idea what paper machete was, so it was a fun very messy project that the whole family got into. Once I got all the layers done it was time to cover it with the blue material that I got extremely lucky finding. I found it at a yard sale down the street and the lady having the yard sale was a professional seamstress she used the blue material for a ice skating performer. I already had large white button from a previous project so I hot glued those on. The red belt was left over material from the Wonka bar. I made her shirt out of the same blue material. Sprayed color on her hair to make it darker and of course painted her face blue. The cowboy is my oldest daughter. She is 7 years old and was so excited to be a cowboy this year. She loves horses. So for hers it’s old jeans and shirt that she previously had but I took left over material from the Wonka bar and sewed tassels on the shirt under her arms and sewed the same brown material on the pants for knee patches. Then I took the same brown material and made her a gun holster belt to hold her gun. The belt buckle is a peice of card board cut into a circle and covered with tinfoil then hot glued on. On to me Willy Wonka! I found the shirt pants and purple velvet blazer again at the thrift store and took left over material from the golden ticket to make my bow tie. I spray painted my bow tie and my top hat with a light tan color. Ok on to my husband the oompah loompa. I got to say he is a good sport every year but he was not feeling the Oompa Loompa costume lol. So I found some large womens lounge stretch capri pants ( which my husband kept calling maternity pants lol) I bought a white shirt and brown fabrics diy. Colored the shirt brown then sewed the color and arm cuffs with the same brown material used through out the costumes and added the white stripes with white material. Then I took some more white material and sewed his suspenders on to the pants. His wig is a gray wig and bought some green hair spray paint to color it green. Then of course colored his face orange with white eyebrows I also colored some white socks brown when I colored his shirt. So this is our 2018 Halloween I can’t wait to see what we come up with next year!!!
