Alice in Wonderland Costume

My 3 year old Daughter Scarlett loves the Alice in wonderland movies both the Disney and Tim burton versions. They are filed with all of her favorite things. Tea Parties! Cats! Dancing flowers! Adventure!

We used her second hand flower girl dress that she wore at a friends wedding last year as the base! I removed some of the white fluffy skirt to take some weight off, then I made a no sew tule skirt out of a piece of ribbon and cut strips of light blue tule! I attached that onto the top of the existing skirt, $2 for tulle! After that was to make the Apron, plain white cotton fabric and the I found the cotton ruffle edge piece! Just eyeing it I cut out the skirt shape x2 and sewed together the added the ruffle edging and the attached to skirt and added snaps for easy removal $1.75! As for the Alice Accessories a simple satin black Ribbon for her hair $.70, black and white stripped tights $3.49, black shoes from her closet and most importantly her thrifted hand painted Japanese tea cup hung of a neckless $6!

This costume only took me a day to make! It was really fun and my daughter helped me a lot. I love recycling, so being able to re-used the flower girl dress was amazing, when we bought it last year we actually got it second hand for $30 an amazing deal and it had of course only been worn once! My mind starts racing thinking of all the princesses dresses I see even not during Halloween and I often wonder how many flower girl dresses sit in closet not touched wishing they could be worn again!
