A word from Tracy, the 'Baby Doll in a Box' costume creator:

This is my 9 year old daughter as a doll in a box. Instead of using a cardboard box which are always heavy I used tri foam boards - you know the kind your kids use for projects at school and you can buy in drug stores or craft stores. The toy accessories I picked up at dollar store/drug store and/or any cheap baby retailer etc. and hot glued on and then added twisters for effect....you know those annoying things that take parents hours to undo!!!! Take care to arrange them so your child's body wont obscure them from view. I sprayed painted the outside but had got yellow colored foam board for the inside for contrast. The clear plastic is from a poster frame and was the perfect size. I had gone to the thrift store and bought a old backpack with straps the same purple color as her footie outfit so it would blend in. I cuts the straps off and attached them through the back so she could "wear" the box. I made small slits and poked them through then hot glued and ducked taped the hell out of them. The back has a double back so the straps and anchoring does not show. Inside I glued handles (wide plastic bath hooks)so she could hold the box steady and up-right. I designed the artwork and printed it out on the computer. The flowers are children's wall stickers from the dollar store. The footed sleeper I bought in Sears and the pacifier from a Halloween supply store. I made the bib from an old white towel. I glued a battery push light on the "ceiling" so she could be illuminated. The only downside is you have to escort your child...in order to collect the candy!!!! The good news is if it rains your doll remains nice and dry! I made it in one weekend.
