Book of Life La Muerte Costume

My daughter, Brianna, is wearing an original DIY costume. She loves the movie Book of Life and wanted to be La Muerte ~ a character based on the movie.

This costume was altered from an adult size 4, and sprayed with 2 cans of red fabric spray paint ~ it was shortened, the round wire was hand sewn into the bottom to make a floating effect. There are flowers hot glued onto the costume - both fake and tissue flowers. The hat is a sun hat that was glued onto a cut out cardboard circle to make the hat larger and it was also spray painted red. There are tissue flowers that were hot glued to the top of the sun hat along with a poster board cut out for the edge of the hat. The candles were made with straws and orange tissue paper used for fire. The skulls around the brim of the hat were cut from poster board and then painted. The little skulls on the hat and on the dress were found in packs of 6 for $1 at our Dollar General stores. The link feathers were glued onto brown craft twist ties so I could bend them. The green leaves were purchased at Dollar Tree. This costume took about 3 weeks to make ~ spray painting, glueing, cutting, sewing by hand (no sewing machine), and painting! I love every piece of it and my daughter was thrilled to see the finish! We have received so many compliments be yes you cannot just purchase this costume!
