A word from Carrie, the 'Medusa' costume creator:
My daughter Jailyn totally killed it Halloween night as MEDUSA!
I made a "traditional" toga with some cream fabric, needle and thread just by folding over a yard and a half (similar to wrapping a towel around you!) I sewed gold shimmer ribbon trim to emphasize the slit and around the hem line. I attached velcro as a fastener around her bust -- figuring she needed a little more security than a knot for a night of trick or treating!
Her belt is elastic sequin ribbons that I just fitted and sewed together and her sash is just a semi shear sequin fabric draped over her shoulder-- I also used some scraps to make her a a matching cuff bracelet. Her snake arm cuff was purchased from Party City!
Her hair (which is all hers) was seriously backcombed to get this effect! Her "snakes" are actually made from craft foam/wire stick Christmas decorations! I snipped off the long tube pieces, cut out felt "tongues" and affixed them with a straight pin. I then took the pieces and hot glued them to a headband I already had! I left the hairline section of her hair for last, placed the headband and teased that portion back so the headband was not visible -- it really gave the illusion of snakes coming out!
Her make up was pretty simple! Deep purple "smokey eye", red lip -- I also used the end of a new pencil eraser for her "scales!" I snipped the corners off to make a diamond shape and dipped them into green face paint!
She looved this costume - said it was her favorite yet and definitely played the part with that traditional Medusa tude all night long!
