This homemade costume for girls entered our 2016 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Lucas, the 'Saguaro Cactus' costume creator:
Our family loves the Sonoran Desert in which we live, and we wanted to make a costume that would truly represent this wonderful place. We thought a saguaro cactus would be the perfect costume for our 3 year-old daughter! True to the real-life saguaro cactus, it also has a Gila Woodpecker on it, and a bat sipping nectar from its flowers. We made the costume out of foam covered in cotton fabric, with extra foam pieces sewed in to make the ribs. We then glued pipe cleaner pieces on it to make the spines, and the flowers are made of painted toilet paper rolls and tissue paper.
