A word from Cathy, the 'Severed Head on a Platter' costume creator:
My daughter wanted to be something a little gory this year so we searched for fun ideas and came up with a head on a platter. The "table" is a foam core poster board with a hole for her head. I bought a silver plastic platter from a party store and also cut a hole in it. The tablecloth (which was actually a curtain) plate, silverware, wine glass and flower vase were purchased from a thrift store and applied with hot glue. For the wine I used mod podge dimensional magic and red food coloring and the bread is an actual piece of French bread painted with mod podge. I used a light yellow yarn for the spaghetti and made "meatballs" out of paper towels wrapped in yarn and then painted. I also applied some yarn to a headband as well as a fake knife (made out of cardboard and foil) and attached some rubber rats and spiders for fun special effects. We painted my daughters face to look "dead" and added some fake blood dripping out of her mouth. The reactions she got were amazing! Strangers were asking to take selfies with her and she loved all the attention. So glad my kids let me use my crafting skills to dress them up!
