A word from Ketsy, the 'Vanellope von Schweetz' costume creator:

My daughter Kamyla Sophia is three-years old and infatuated with anything candy. We saw Wreck It Ralph and bought the dvd and she automatically knew she wanted to be "the glitch" as she calls her for Halloween and fall fest. Here the fun began. The costume itself was easy. I bought a teal hoodie and tights and used white duct tape for the spirals on the pants and pink It was tough to find a brown pleated skirt on her size so I bought fabric and sewed a quick one with just elastic waistband. (Another idea would be to buy a uniform skirt and dye it brown. Dye is under $2 dollars so that was my to go idea if the sewing failed.) On to the prop. Having an older brother or dad dress as Wreck It Ralph helps :D In Kamyla's case, dad was volun-told and with a layered green and orange shirt and a pair of brown overalls, he was ready to go. I used foam to make the hero cookie as an extra prop for him. ( You could make an actually cookie and add glue to the flour base for a harder consistency or even use ceramic. That would have been too much for me. ) I also got two feet of red rope from the fabric store to simulate licorice on her ponytail and glued some beads to bobby pins to attach to her hair. On to the fun part. Children need a stroller or wagon (in our case) for when they get tired of walking or hyper from eating candy :D I knew I had to come up with a way to make her wagon fun and so I got on the task of building Vanellope's race car. I used a box cutter to cut out cardboard for the sides and then a hot glue gun to put the frame of the car together. Once the frame was placed around the wagon, the add ons began. Felt fabric is fairly inexpensive and I bought a few yards in brown, purple and blue and cut pieces to simulate the chocolate and the frostings. I used foam boards to cut out stars and sprinkles and folded pink fabric for the icing. For the wheels, I used cardboard and also some old craft containers I had laying around. (I used these for a short cut but you could also build them by bending cardboard.) I used an old pool hose (cut up and spray painted) for the candy on he tires and pool noodles with duct tape for the exhaust. (You could possibly an old vacuum hose as well and use paper towel rolls but I forgot to save some for the project.) I had some old plastic coconuts which I used for the taillights and one of the headlights. The fender was also built from cardboard, covered in felt fabric and propped up with pool noodles. All in all, she was very happy with the outcome and so was I. There are always areas that could have been improved but I tried to limit spending and used items on hand. Also remember its the details and small things that can count and go a long way. I made a sign from foam board for Ralph as well and it was a hit too.
