A word from Mari, the 'Marie Antoinette, Executioner, and Louis XVI' costume creator:
I wanted to make a wonderful themed group costume for me, my younger brother, Aidan (6) and my sister Justine (9). I knew it had to something special and memorable. We settled on Marie Antoinette, her executioner and Louis XVI. They were really excited to help me work on it.
We wrapped Justine up in duct tape to create the bust, then cut her out of it, and paper machéd and painted it. The same process was used on her hands and arms to stuff the gloves.
Using a pool noodle folded in half, stuffed halfway into the hollow bust, we rigged it to a backpack.
Her dress was created using an old '80s wedding dress, transformed into a dress to match the time period using other fabric.
The Louis XVI costume was created by modifying a pirate costume by adding embellishments, lace frills, as well as a collar.
