This homemade costume for kids entered our 2017 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Amanda, the 'Evil Purple Minion' costume creator:
My son wanted to be an evil purple minion for Halloween, so mama couldn't disappoint! This handmade costume took about 16+ hours - most of it was making templates and doing trial runs.
Materials Needed
BODY
*Project foam (I went to Joann's, measured the size I needed WITH SOME EXTRA).
*12" 1/2 ball Styrofoam - available at Joann's
*2 yards of purple fabric
*1.5 yards of black fabric
*Hot glue gun and lots of hot glue sticks
HAIR
*Spray adhesive glue - like this **you may choose to use something else. I didn't like how this sprayed on.
*Very loose yarn - pictures below in description.
GOGGLES & TEETH
*Black felt
*Construction paper (for templates of teeth)
*White craft foam
*Cardboard Circle (I found one from a generator box at the bottom).
*Grey/Purple/Black craft paint
*White stockings
*Fasteners to add detail to the goggles
The body was made by gluing foam together, covering it with fabric, cutting the arm holes and eye holes, and then adding the dome head and covering with fabric.
The eye/goggles was made with the material above and put together.
The hair was made with brushed out yarn and hairspray and purple hair spray color to make it look darker.
We bought a black shirt, black pants, black gloves, and black boots for the rest of the costume.
My son loves it!! He even helped some with it and was so excited when it was finished.
The costume ended up being very mobile and easy to see!
