A word from Marie, the 'Taffy Apple' costume creator:

I'm always looking for things to make my kids for holloween. I was inspired by my very first taffy apple last year while visiting a pumpkin farm. I looked online for any ideas on how to make this costume but found only 2 that were not what I pictured in my mind. My daughter is wearing the costume, she's 4. I used an exercise ball and paper mache making the top wider than the bottom. After drying I made holes for her arms and head and taped the holes to make them stronger. I also used duct tape to make sort of a strap for each shoulder for the Apple to rest on. I used brown glossy acrylic paint and straws I bought from the Florida straw company using just holloween colors. I cut the straws lengthwise to make them thinner and darker. I melted some to overlap and cut in all different sizes to replicate sprinkles. I used a gift basket plastic bag and hot glued to the inside of all the holes. The hole I cut for her head I used that piece and decorated it like the rest of the Apple. I got glued and sewed a piece of fleece to make a hat to attach to the paper mache hat I used cardboard to make the stick, cut the paper mache hat to fit the cardboard stick and folded the cardboard under it, covered the bottom of the hat with felt to hide the cardboard before attaching the homemade hat. I added scraps of plastic from the bag made little spiders out of ribbon that I found on the Internet, and made puppets for her hands to keep her hands warm. Those I also found online how to make. I made one look like a zombie and one look like a witch and we called them worms. I ised socks, cardboard, and thin cushion to make the mouth, styrofoam circles cut in half and Google eyes to make the eyes, red felt for the mouth, feather boa to make the hair.
