A word from Lawrence, the 'Jack Skellington a la Sandy Claws' costume creator:
I'm wearing the costume :)
I got the idea from wanting to do Jack & Sally, but wanted to also do something original. At first, I was going to create a life-size Mayor of Halloweentown with a fully functioning spinning head & have my girlfriend be Sally. But then, I went with classic Jack and Sally after I saw a meme that portrayed "creepy" Jack in a red light setting. It reminded me of Sandy Claws, Jack's interpretation of Santa Claus, and went with it!
The heads (I made 2 masks with different facial expressions!) are paper mache with model magic. After everything dried, I covered the whole thing in an epoxy so it would be hardy, then finally the paint job over top of everything. There's a bike helmet inside to make sure that I can twist my head.
I made the giant beard out of coat hangers that I'd stretched out, the inside of an old pillow, duct tape, and this cool hairy textile I got from walmart.
The Sandy Claws costume was converted from a devil costume that I cut the tail off of, and added fuzzy rings around the wrists and ankles with the same material I used for the beard.
I'd say the whole thing cost about $100 to make, and you'd have leftover materials for making all kinds of other things.
