A word from Mark, the 'Lego Brutus' costume creator:
Mark Kersten is wearing the costume. I currently attend Ferris State University and I wanted to make a costume that showed some school spirit. When I was younger I used to play with legos all the time and so that's where the lego idea came from. The costume is made mainly of cardboard. The hands are madequate from pvc pipe. We started off by finding pictures of lego men and scaling them to size and then using this measurements to get dimensions for the body, legs, and head. We cut out each piece of the legs and body and used duct tape on the inside and quad caulk on the outside corners to hold it together. For the head we used a cardboard form used for concrete posts found at Lowes. For the neck we used a smaller size of these forms. Inside the head we mounted a hard hat in place so your head can perfectly look outside the holes in the head. For the legs I mounted small bolts to the side of the legs with string attached so we could tie them to our belt so the legs are an inch off the ground. The feet of the lego man were actually shoe boxes that I taped and caulked perfectly in place. As far as the painting goes I hand painted everything. The face was painted by hand. The numbers and words on the front and back of the jersey and also the different stripes of colors painted on the body piece. The costume took me about 200 hours to build.
