A word from Brian, the 'Zombie BBQ' costume creator:
My name is Brian. I am the person in the costume. First I will tell you about the clothing. The pants I bought at a thrift store for $.25. The top shirt that has been burned is just a shirt that is to big for me since I lost weight. The black shirt underneath the blue burned shirt is another thrift store find costing me $.50. Is used the black shirt under the blue shirt to give the look a burned look. The pants I am wearing I splattered with fake blood made from corn syrup and food coloring. The top shirt I burned in places and torn to make it look like I had been burned for awhile. I mean a zombie wouldn't care about being burned. I also used black spray paint to give the shirt a charred look. The paint was $1 at Walmart. On to the face and arms. To start with I painted my face with red creme paint from walmart, $1 a tube. I used less than one tube. I sponged it on my face everywhere that I wanted to look burned. Then I smeared some Vaseline on my eyebrows to protect them. I made some gelatin cubes a few days before. The gelatin I used was a big box $10, glycerine $6, honey, and water. The gelatin I bought at Walmart, and the glycerin I bought at Rite Aid. I am not sure about the honey, because we love honey at my house. Anyway, I put a few squares of the gelatin I made in the microwave for 10 second intervals. The gelatin melts making a paste that I smeared over the red places on my face to create the burn look. I used a Popsicle stick to do this. As the gelatin starts to cool it gets sticky soI used the stick to pull up places in the gelatin. I just played with it until I got the look of melting skin. Then I uses liquid latex and went around all the edges of the gelatin. I did this for two reasons. One it helps the gelatin to stay in place over a long period of time. Two I wanted to have aloof of wrinkled skin at the edges of the burn to make it look more real. Just a warning some people are allergic to latex so always test it with a small spot on the hand or arm before using a lot. Okay after the latex dried I used baby powder on the latex and gelatin so that it wouldn't be sticky. I used a powder brush to brush off any powder still on my face. Now it was time to paint. I used a cosmetic sponge again. This time I used a little black and some white to make gray. Agani the paint was $1 tubes of creme paint from walmart. I sponged the paint on the raised places of the gelatin to give a charred look to the skin. After the gray I went back in with the same red from earlier and hit the groves of the gelatin to give a raw meaty look. Then I sponged on a layer of red on my arms and hands and then a layer of black here and there to create a burned yet meaty look.
