A word from Madeline, the 'Big Sister' costume creator:
I made 100% of this costume from scratch, using materials such as paper mâché, foam floor mats, spandex, PVC pipe, and faux suede. All fabric pieces were hand drafted. The helmet is made of six layers of paper mâché and lots of foam details. All 32 belts are hand made, and each buckle had to be hand-sewn. The corset is fully functional and is boned with zip ties. All gromets (on the corset and belts) were inserted by hand. The tank is a sauna tube that is mounted onto my back using a series of bolts and harnesses worn underneath the body suit. The cage on the tank is made of steal bars that were bent into shape, then drilled in place. The syringe is a PVC pipe with a wooden dowel at the end; this piece features a baby bottle, real gauges, and foam detailing. The harpoon is a knitting needle with a plastic container, accompanied by real glass test tubes and foam.
This costume took about 10 months to complete, and weighs about 10lbs total.
