A word from Melany, the 'Che Guevara T-Shirt' costume creator:
I’m the Cady Heron of my friends, going for a party in a sexy nurse costume or painting cat whiskers on my face has never been an option. During my brainstorming process of what to be for Halloween this year, I had a thought – girls my age want to meet boys and stand out. How do I get their attention without showing any skin?
So I thought of the boys I like and the things they hold dear and near. Then, I thought of their closet. What better way to get those college boys talking to you by actually BEING their universal favorite T-shirt!
So it begun! I bought a:
- Plain black T-shirt in size L from a retail store
- A beret from the Army Market
- Good quality cosmetic grade face paint in Black and White (the brand is Global Colors) because I had sensitive skin
- A piece of red felt from the Art Supplies Store
Other things you need:
- Some cardboard
- Printer to print the words
- Scissors
- Double-sided tape
- Some sewing skills
I cut the red felt into a slightly bigger than A4 rectangle and stitched it to the black T-shirt. Then I printed the words Che Guevara and a red star on paper, cut it and pasted the words on the red felt and the red star on the beret with double-sided tape.
I cut an “+” at the bottom of the red felt for my head to fit through, then I made a structure via cardboard to hold it up. I painted my face last and when it dried, I slotted my head through the “+” and viola!
I was quite pleased with how it turned out and the night turned out pretty great. It worked and I had great conversations with some boys. There was even one guy who bro-fisted my chest and said “Nice costume bro!”
