Glamorous Mermaid Costume

Not having the ability to walk due to spinal cord injury, I thought why not take a pair of leggings, unstitch the leg seams and sew them back together as one leg. Then, I took several yards of purple/pink felt and cut out dozens of semi-circles and machine sewed them to the one piece legging portion to create the "gill" effect. From there, I took purple/white fleece material and ordinary stuffing, cut out a fin and a shell for my back to rest in, stuffed both and sewed in the accentuating detail. To top it off, I dangled some fake flowers on the shell and took real shells from the ocean and strung them to make a necklace. Took about a month to make and the looks and stares were beyond imagination! Can't walk? Strap your legs together as one and poof! Instant mermaid! Definitely a sensational hit to be admired! I feel like a queen knowing I created this costume from scratch and by hand to boot! Very proud!
