A word from Amanda, the 'Voodoo Tiana' costume creator:
Every October my friend Mandy and I through a themed Halloween party. This year our theme was Twisted Disney. My costume was inspired by my favorite Disney princess from one of my favorite movies, Tiana from Princess and frog. I designed my costume from a universe where the bad guy, Dr. Facilier wins and takes Tiana's soul but what he doesn't realize is that his "friends on the otherside" have taken quite a liking to her and so they gift her with power far beyond his own. She then in turn becomes a dark voodoo priestess destroying everything in her wake. I bought the corset from Amazon, sewed the double slitted skirt myself from a window panel then added tulle underneath to make it more fitted and less revealing. The crown is made from real deer antlers, I add feathers, leather string, plastic skulls and a little green jewel to represent the Tiana she could have been. I handmade the wig using cotton roving, black rit dye and purple koolaid and string. I cooked, rolled, rung, drying and attached each dread to a cotton piece of fabric I shaped using elastic to fit my head and extremely thick hair. It took weeks to make, but turned out better than I even imagined. Around my waist is a metal chain with coins, a mirror, 3 handmade voodoo dools, various tiny vials, a small flask and tarot cards wrapped in faux leather. I wore no shoes and the train followed behind me by about 2 1/2 feet, dragging leaves and dirt behind it to give that in the nature, wild look. I did the makeup myself. The entire costume took about a month to make with breaks to ponder.
