A word from Joyce, the 'Covid-19 Survivors' costume creator:
The minute I saw a picture of a magnified Covid-19 virus back in March, I thought to myself, “That’s a styrofoam ball stuck with red painted cloves!” Then as Halloween approached, I talked my “partner in illness”, Ginger Mathis, into being the virus with me. She and I both had the virus at the end of February, but didn’t know it until we both were tested positive for antibodies in April! I got an “I survived Covid-19” t-shirt for my birthday, then I bought her one for her birthday.
So I went to Michaels and bought various sizes of styrofoam balls, straight pins with red tips for the small viruses; red golf tees for the large viruses, and I had a can of cloves on hand. I spray painted the balls a dull gray, and the cloves red. I easily poked them into the balls, and attached Velcro strips to each ball. Then I attached the balls to the black t-shirts. Ginger and I were a hit at the parties we attended! The cost for all was about $30 each. But the fun was creating them!
