A word from Madison, the 'Dead Sailor and Toxic Waste Siren' costume creator:

My boyfriend is the sailor and I am the Toxic Waste Siren. I`m 17 years old but from a very young age I never liked the ideas of regular happy ever after fairy tails. I always thought to myself "this could have easily gone wrong" and that`s what i have aimed to do with this costume. There are so many opportunities to be creative and different but everyone is afraid to do so. With this costume I did my own spin on the little mermaid and how she would be portrayed (in my opinion) in today's world. All I did was use a black sports bra for the top and i bought metallic scale leggings from amazon. I cut the seams on the inside leg and sewed them together around my legs so they would be form fitting, cutting where the tail bone would cover my legs. For the tail itself I crumpled pieces of paper of different shapes and sizes and covered them with paper mache strips. Once all the pieces were made i connected them with different colored string (red, black, purple) and used the strips to keeps them together. I bought the tub and my uncle provided me with the cart and toxic waste stickers. The makeup was blue green and white cream paint mixed together. I applied it all over exposed skin and used liquid latex to make it look "scaled".
