This homemade costume for families entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Heather, the 'Dragon, Knight and Princess' costume creator:
My mom Karen thought of my one-year-old son Tank's costume initially, and my husband and I decided to dress in a theme to match him.
Tank's dragon costume was made using a hoodie and scrap fabric. A pattern was drawn with freezer paper, making spikes along the hood, that would come down the back and curve upward just before reaching the floor. My mom attached the dragon spikes and tail to a hoodie after stuffing it with pillow fluff. She also made sneaker covers, complete with claws.
For my husband's costume, my mom took scrap fabric and made him a tunic using velcro on the side. The only thing we purchased for all three costumes was his hat, it was a $1 at The Dollar Tree. I poked holes in the plastic with a large sewing needle and stitched it to a grey hoodie, he wore underneath his tunic. He wore leather pants he already owned and used a blow up sword we got as a party favor from Oriental Trading.
For my costume, I wore an old bridesmaids dress, a collar my grandmother crocheted, and my mom made my headpiece out of scrap fabric.
All three costumes only cost us $1! If we win your contest, we're going to put the winnings towards a college fund.
