A word from Megan, the 'Edward Scissorhands' costume creator:
This idea came from me being a big Tim Burton fan. I love Edward and though my son would be a great look alike. This costume was pretty much all DIY. I started by piecing together the outfit and purchased the majority of it from Amazon if I didnt already have it in my sons closet. Start with a long sleeved black turtleneck, a white button down shirt, dark grey slacks, black suspenders, and a black o-ring choker to give it the goth look. The black wig was also purchased on Amazon. For the makeup I used the lightest shade foundation I could find, do not use white face paint as Edward was pale, not a ghost. I used a light loose powder to set the foundation and then got a medium-dark brown contouring powder and used that along the sides of his face, his eyes, and his cheekbones. I contoured my sons nose to make it more thin and even used black eyeliner on his nostrils for a pointier nose like Edwards. For the lips I used a dark blue eyeshadow and filled in only the center of the top and bottom lip. Once all the makeup was applied I got a gluestick and cut out the glue and mashed it up to create a more thin and stringy consistency and used that as the scars on his face and applied with a popsicle stick. To make the gloves I purchased Star Wars Captain Phasma gloves which has a mechanical look to them already and hot glue gunned silver plastic knives so they were standing up on top of every finger on the glove. To make the plastic knives look more like scissors , I used a sharp scissor to cut off the teeth of the knives and also to cut about an inch off the handle to shorten the length and cut an angle toward the top of the plastic knife for a slanted look. I went to Michael's and purchased one black and one red felt sheet. I traced a pair of scissor handles onto the felt and cut it out and hot glue gunned the felt handle to the end of the plastic knife. I used excess felt and cut out strips to hold the knife to the glove and it blended right in with the handles. Also make sure to glue a thin line so the knife stands up to each finger. Pictures attached. Super fun to make and overall cost about $50 unless you get lucky and have a lot of these things at home; light face makeup and the clothes.
