This homemade costume for women entered our 2014 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Jenn, the 'Effie Trinket' costume creator:

I made my Effie Trinket costume for my annual themed Halloween Party. This year, our theme was Apocalypse, as with every year's theme, the criteria for my costume is, a strong tie to the theme, something I can act, and would be the kind of person that would be a host or preside over a party. Effie, from the Hunger Games Trilogy (she is seen in this dress in Catching Fire), was the only character from the post-apocalyptic dystopia to be hostess for the evening. Of all her incredible couture, I loved the butterflies, plus because of the emotional place she is in when she is wearing it.
So I began by searching on-line for the butterflies, I needed to be able to get a ton! I also wanted to make sure I could get fabric with a monarch print. While the real dress was covered in "actual" butterfly wings, it is a very stiff dress and I needed to be able to move, bend, etc as a host. Finding it and the butterflies I knew I could go forward. Then I ordered black booties and wig, and went the Halloween store for the lace gloves.
I sewed the dress with a modified A line silhouette, and hot glued a combination of whole butterflies and single wings in varying sizes in a bib shape, and up the neck.
I bought a wig that can be heat set that was the right color and cut and steam curled it to her bouffant style and made her butterfly fascinator hat with wire, hot glue, more butterflies.
I bought false eyelashes, regular and paper cut ones with butterflies on them and wore one of each, used an ivory foundation and a theatrical face paint for the yellow cheeks and eyelids, and a neutral shimmer for my lips. Then finally used the eyelash glue to attach three small butterflies on my skin, one beside my eye and the others on my arms.
Whether folks recognized who I was or not , it is a fun high impact costume and not uncomfortable to wear. Hunger Game fans wanted to get their pictures taken with me!
