A word from Lori, the 'Egyptians' costume creator:
The Pharaohs of Egypt had to be rolling over in their crypts when they heard about our group Halloween idea. My husband is Queen of the Nile. His tall physique is hidden by our very ornate and hand decorated litter. My twins, a friend of theirs, and I are the slaves carrying the Queen. My father-in-law is the Pharaoh himself. My daughter and a few more friends jumped in to act as additional slaves/royal family members. We used a cardboard box and two pvc pipes to make the litter. The Queen could stand in the middle, but fake legs lay on the box in front of her... making it look as though we were carrying her. A drape (a table cover from the dollar store) was stapled from under the box to hide his legs as he walked. We drew on the box for days to make all the hieroglyphics. For the fake legs (to look like we were actually CARRYING the queen) we used cardboard to shape it and fiber fill to stuff a pair of ladies panty hose. Floral wire held them in place on the base. A pair of old sandals completed the look! Cheap white shower curtains and table clothes from the dollar store made almost all of the togas! Black wigs were store bought, but most of the jewelry and accessories were simple ribbon and cuts of fabric. I used fabric paint to brighten up the scraps. Wallah! The Egyptians WALK!
