Exhausted Parents Costume

This is our couples costume, “exhausted parents.” My husband and I decided to dress as something realistic and easy to relate to. We have a 15-month-old who keeps us on our toes. We also stayed up until 4:00 a.m. making our son‘s Halloween costume, so our choice of exhausted parents was even more appropriate after the late night we had.

The costume included slippers, bathrobes, a diaper, baby wipes, a Target bag, baby Tylenol, diaper cream, a nursing pad, a pacifier, a bottle, a Starbucks cup, a 5 Hour Energy, a burp cloth, some snacks stuck in my hair and in my pocket, undone hair, smeared makeup, a wacky haircut on my husband, and a laminated picture of our son around my husband’s neck that says, “Need some sleep? I don’t think so!”

The costume is made from items we already had around our house. It was fun to create, because the worse we looked, the better the costume was! I didn’t have to worry about my makeup looking good, I just smeared it all over my eyes. We walked through our house and looked for items that we use on a regular basis that would add to the idea we were looking to portray for our costume. My husband even took hair clippers and gave himself a crazy, undone-looking haircut.

We ventured out in Chicago the weekend before Halloween and braved the rain and cold weather so we could enjoy some festivities around town, then went out for trick-or-treating during the week on a very snowy Halloween night! We enjoyed chatting with other parents who could relate to our costume :-)
