Family Mario Costumes

We decided to “go big or go home” this year with epic handmade Super Mario themed Halloween costumes for the entire family. We’ve actually never all dressed up together…my husband and I were a little reluctant to get in on the fun at first, but the kids convinced us to go all in! So I dug out my sewing machine and set about creating DIY family Mario Halloween costumes for all of us. It was a labor of love, to be sure!

Mario and Luigi riding Yoshi were the stars of the show. After finding inspiration from another family Mario costume collection on Costume Works, we decided to attempt our own version! Yes, they are completely handmade from scratch. And yes, it took a ridiculously long time. But we did it!

Princess Peach's dress was made using an out-of-print sewing pattern from Simplicity. The jewels on the dress and crown are made out of polymer clay!

Toadette was simple - I sewed a basic red vest, added some trim to a pink dress we already had, and made the hat out of an old bike helmet.

We got daddy in on the action with a box, some yellow spray paint, and card stock!

We had so much fun dressing up together as a family. I can't say we'll ever top these costumes, but I don't think this will be the last time we dress up all together!
