Fire Alarm Costume

Jacob and his fire alarm

Costume type:  Costumes for Boys
Category:Halloween Costumes

This homemade costume for boys entered our 2022 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Valerie, the 'Fire Alarm' costume creator:

My son, Jacob, has autism and is obsessed with fire alarms. Every time we go into a restaurant or store, he points out every fire alarm and fire door in the place. He even had a fire alarm cake for his birthday. When he asked for a fire alarm costume for Halloween, I knew I had to get creative. I took a cardboard box and reinforced the entire box with red duct tape. Then, I downloaded a picture of a fire alarm from the internet and had it made into an adhesive poster. I put the poster on the front of the costume and cut out the pull lever. I reinforced the lever with some light resin wood and then placed a pull-activated panic alarm on the inside. I hooked it up so that, when the lever is pulled, the light and sound activates. I thought the fire hat with the light and siren on top was also a great addition. We went to our local Harvest Festival yesterday and everyone wanted to pull the fire alarm. He even won first place in the costume contest. I really enjoyed making this costume, but my favorite part was seeing the look of pride and pure joy on my sweet boy's face when he wore it. Thank you for your consideration.

Hey would you be able to make an adult female this costume at all? My nephew hayden who was also autistic and obsessed with fire alarms to the point he would make me/us go around the shops and find the different ones, he passed away unexpectedly on the 1st September aged 6. We don't have the funeral date or anything yet but I would be willing to pay to get this made - I'm not so good at DIY or even a video to show me how to make this from afar and what to do. The description is very good. But I'm more of a visual learner any help would be massively appreciated. X
