This homemade costume for boys entered our 2013 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Kimberly, the 'Fishtank' costume creator:
This is my 10 year old that I made the costume for. Can you say "How cool?!" LOL I make our costumes every year and they are always part of the costume contest downtown on Halloween night. He was definitely the talk of the trick or treaters!
This costume took some time but wasn't that hard to make.
What you will need to make this:
- Two Cardboard boxes that will fit your child
- Saran Wrap
- Wood grain contact paper
- Black duct tape
- Fish tank flowers
- Stones
- Fish net
- Swim cap
I started by finding two boxes that would fit my child then I took the smaller of the two boxes to make the aquarium and carefully cut it out leaving the edges and the back uncut to make the frame of the tank. I then used black duct tape and wrapped up those edges. The next step was difficult (you know how sticky saran wrap is lol) as tight as I could put the saran wrap on the tank to make it look like glass. It was soooo cute when I finally got it right. For the bottom of the tank stand I found some wood grain contact paper at Dollar Tree and just wrapped up the larger box. Then you will glue the two together.
Now for the decorations and the fish! I just hot glued some fish tank flowers and some stones I found at Dollar Tree to the bottom of the tank. I had some extra fishtank background from my real tank and I just taped that in there as well. Then I glued a fish net and some empty fish food jars to the stand. Ohhh don't forget the swim cap if you have one :)
And that's it! Needless to say he was the highlight of the evening! :)
