A word from April, the 'Gardening Club' costume creator:
We do family themed costumes each year. This year, our youngest daughter wanted to be a “wisher”. I had no idea what she was talking about.. but she was adamant on being one. After finally figuring out that she wanted to be a dandelion! So we built our theme around her costume.
Meadow as the dandelion or “wisher” as she called it. I started with the difficult part of the head piece. I used a bicycle helmet. I took the plastic off of the helmet only leaving the foam. I spray painted it brown. I used wood skewers. I bought feather trim to use to as the dandelion top. I hot glued the feather to the skewers and then hot glued them into the helmet. I spaced them out so the helmet wouldn’t be heavy. I spray painted a quarter of the way up the skewers. Meadow wore a green body suit and I cut out leaves out of felt and attached to green ribbon. I spray painted a pair of crocs green.
Macon went as a preying mantis. We used 2 different masks because it was supposed to rain on Halloween. The first mask I made by purchasing a pdf to make an origami mask. It looked difficult. But it was actually easy. When we saw rain in the forecast, we bought a mask from Amazon. He is wearing a green bodysuit and his legs are made from green pool noodles. I attached them like a belt his waist. His wings were made from a cheap pair of fairy wings. I glued green felt onto them.
My husband went as a dirtbag. I mean.. bag of dirt. I bought an oversized green shirt and a bag of dirt. I emptied the dirt. I washed the bag and tried hot gluing it to the shirt. It would not stay because of the bags material. So I sewed it.
I went as a gardener. I bought all of my items at a thrift store.
