Genie from Aladdin Costume

One of my favorite scenes from the original Disney animated Aladdin, where he donned a touristy Hawaiian shirt.

I decided to replicate that look best I could. I spotted a long sleeve royal blue shirt and placed a Hawaiian shirt over it. I wore a tapestry of a design of a hurricane that I placed holes in up top so I can line it up on my belt so it can drape down above a toy genie lamp strapped to one of my shoes to simulate me coming out of the lamp.

For the head, I found a Samurai warrior wig online and painted it blue. For the top stem, I painted it and fastened it in a make shit “man bun” and wrapped it around material from craft store to simulate the gold looking piece that holds the top of my hair together.

Finally I purchased elf ears and painted them the same color as the wig and fastened them on the sides with push pins from the inside of the wig/cap.

Doing a character “outside my comfort zone” was fun and a bit of a Whole New World.


The very last pic of the lamp was NOT my creation. But I found it at a thrift store a couple of weeks before I put the costume together and i had my friends rub it at my friend’s party!
