Ghosted Costume

I absolutely LOVE dressing up in costumes. Halloween or not, if there’s an opportunity to get creative and dress up, I am all about it!

That said, I am also trying realllly hard to save (which really cuts into my costume budget!) Therefore, I decided to brainstorm original DIY costumes.

My first thought - what is something that most people can relate to in one way or another?

As I was brainstorming, I received a text from one of my good friends. She was venting about a guy not texting her back after they had gone on several dates.

And that’s when it hit me.

The Question: What is something that most people can relate to?

The Answer: Being ghosted

I instantly loved the idea (as well as the festive “ghost” tie in!)

Time to start crafting!

I searched online for a blank phone screen template and proceeded to copy/paste text message bubbles onto it. I then created a realistic "ghosted" conversation, based on the experiences of both myself and my friends. After I completed the template, I attached it to cardboard to make the cutout wearable/durable.

And that was it!

I feel that my costume is both creative and resourceful.. I did not spend a single dime! Not one!

I also achieved my goal of being relatable. I attended a Halloween Bar Crawl the weekend before Halloween and had COUNTLESS people come up to me and ask to take pictures of my costume. More than one girl said, "Oh my god, I need to send this to my friend, she just went through something like this!"

it was pretty funny to be honest.
